He had a reputation as a kind and fair deity who was widely liked, and had a sort of immortality about him granted by his mother. There was a small loophole, though, and it ended up being his downfall. His death was one of the factors that lead to Ragnarök, the cataclysmic event that would lead to the end of the Age of the Gods, and the rebirth of the world after the great flood.
