[On Sunday morning, there is a small gift waiting for the early risers in the tower: an iron key, dangling from a length of twine tied to the wooden beam across the ceiling at the cross section of the four dorms. Upon further inspection it has a particular symbol on the back half and a note that reads "Well done back there. Here's your reward. - The Alchemist". The key goes to the front doors, where there is the same symbol etched above the keyhole on the lock.

Bad news, two people are dead. :( Good news, you've gained outside privileges. :)

But even with the addition of sunshine and a not-so-safe lake, the tower is still a little quieter, the air a little heavier and the mood a lot more somber.]

It's similar enough. Asgardian diets are rather basic. Lots of roasted meats, breads, meats, cheese. Did I mention meat? [Barely a veggie in sight.]

Though we also had Vanir inspired dishes frequently thanks to Mother, so there was a bit more variety when we weren't at grand feasts.

Mmm, yeah, we have plenty of those. Less meat - there's only what's available in the village, for things like that.

[Saaaaandwiches...we need bread and cheese. And these little meat cutlets? Bruno gets distracted at this point with feeding Rosa bits of cheese.]

What are Vanir dishes like?

A lot more plant-based dishes, which is always a welcome change. Flavors are much the same as Asgard, though: lots of roasting, salting, basic herb mixes, stuff like that.

Mmm. I really wish Julieta was here. Bet I could cook some plantains okay, though.

[Let's make some turkey sandwiches~! Bruno, having gone quite a while without being able to eat as much as he wanted, is not one to skip on a sandwich now. Lots of meat, lots of cheese, condiments aplenty. Hope you like this a little on the spicy side, Loki.

Making two together is about as simple as just doing one, so he's done quickly enough.]

[Loki watches Bruno work, handing him items he requests and doing his best to tidy up by putting ingredients away when it seems he's done with them. When the sandwich is done, he accepts it gratefully.

Asgardian food has basically no spice. Luckily, Loki spent enough time on Alfheim to develop a bit more heat tolerance than most other Asgardians. It is a bit hotter than he would have liked, but not enough to be actually painful.]

Been a long time since I cooked for anybody who wasn't a rat. They don't have the most discerning tastes.

I'm sure they're more discerning than you think. [Loki is slower with his meal, partially due to the spice, but also having rarely ever needed to rush a meal in the past.]

Ohhhh, I've seen them eat some things.

[But then, Bruno and the rats usually have the same meals, so maybe let's not get into that!]

I guess you must have people who cook for you or something, back home?

We have a number of palace chefs—well, had— but we also learned the basics as part of our education. It was important for us to be self-sufficient, or at least able to survive on a hunt on more than hard tac and berries.

Oh, that's good! It's important to be able to do stuff yourself. I used to think - well, anyway, I've had to teach myself a lot of stuff since I moved out.

[We don't gotta get deep into it!]

You hunt? Like, for food, not just...?

Mostly for sport, but every part of the beast is put to good use. If it's usable, that is. Many monsters have poisonous blood and meat that make repurposing their bodies difficult.
