week 7
[On Sunday morning, there is a small gift waiting for the early risers in the tower: a gold key, dangling from a length of twine tied to the wooden beam across the ceiling at the cross section of the four dorms. Upon further inspection it has a particular symbol on the back half and a note that reads "Good job. Here's your reward". The note is signed Heisenberg. The key goes to seventh floor, where there is the same symbol etched above the keyhole on the lock.
Another new floor, another pair of deaths and their numbers halved in a matter of weeks. Things can't go on like this much longer.]

Is there something you seek to accomplish in these questions, Duke Fraldarius?

[ Felix lifts his chin. ]
We've been at this for almost several weeks now, and I'm not so much a fool to assume that there is a single one among us who has not been affected.

[ It doesn't even have to be him, is the implication, because he sucks at it. ]
I haven't forgotten what you said at that trial to Loki, so I wouldn't be surprised if his death is bothering you.

But, sometimes throwing a blade around isn't enough. [ ... ] I'm also not going to tell you what exactly to say. That's up to you.
no subject
[That came out a little sharper than usual, another blade forming and slamming into the tree before vanishing without a trace.]
I have never, not a single time in my life, allowed my decisions to be ruled by emotion. And yet I doubted the blatant and obvious truth before my eyes, not because it was too simple but because I did not wish to believe it. In accusing Katsuya, my childish stupidity nearly killed every last one of you. And I am left here infuriated with myself for coming so close to failing.
no subject
So you're infuriated you deluded yourself.
[ A costly mistake here, though it is not the first time anyone has done so. ]
A rightful reason to judge yourself as sorely lacking, as you were at the time. But, even you don't have a heart of stone, Somnus. And you still looked for answers despite how wrong you were. If not for that even I would have lost confidence in your actions.
But, do you still have any in your own after any of that?
no subject
[The Lucii were cold, immediate judgement. Unflinching, unquestioning, devoid of emotion or anything but objective black and white fact.]
[The Mystic would have damned Loki on the spot without hesitation and felt nothing. Somnus, however, was becoming a different story and despising every second of it.]
…I do not know. I am not as certain of anything as I should be. As I need to be.
no subject
I know a man back home. He knows what he wants to do, to do what he can to make things better than they were before. But, I still wouldn't call him certain in everything that he does. Sometimes he doesn't even know what the hell he's doing.
Still, does he let that stop him? No.
[ He looks back from the tree to Somnus. ]
To be someone who can choose and think for themselves means questioning something, being uncertain. It means making mistakes—ones that can be your last. But, you can't let it hold you back either.
Cut yourself a new path. If you're still lost, then have the conviction to move forward to find your way. If you make a mistake, work hard to do better. Take back that certainty for yourself. Because what you were before, you're not that now, and you'll have to adapt to that or you'll lose yourself completely.
no subject
[Ah, but that was the crux of the issue, wasn't it? The real root of the issue. Somnus and his descendants alike had long ago been placed on a singular path; the one way the world could be saved. The one way it could be sure to survive to the dawn that broke over the darkness.]
[Conviction he had, more than could be measured. Conviction to do all that needed be done, to destroy all deemed an obstacle or unnecessary no matter who or what it was. One singular purpose. No deviations could be afforded, whether through the very human quality of free will or whatever was happening here. The Mystic did not make mistakes. Could not, lest the world risk destruction.]
[At his side, his right hand--bearing a heavy black ring--curled into a fist.]
I was lost long ago, Felix. Longer than you could ever know.
no subject
[ This scoff almost sounds like a concession. But with Felix, that's not the case.
He's far too stubborn for that. ]
What of it?
Just because you were lost so long ago, and for so long, doesn't mean you can't find your way again. It won't be easy, but I believe it'd be worth it. Because it's a far better option than accepting defeat.
[ Felix has seen someone who had seem so lost find a way back again, so he does believe that it's possible for Somnus to do the same. Even with his myriad years of baggage. ]
no subject
...But at the same time, I fail to see what such effort would accomplish for a man long since dead to begin with.
no subject
But are you anymore?
No matter who or what you are, it doesn't change the fact that you're here with us, fighting for your life!
If you give up now, what was the point in fighting back FOR so long?! Do you really want to give our enemy any satisfaction after what they've done to us? After every single sacrifice and betrayal that has been wrought upon us?! Is living a life on a new path truly so damn difficult that you'd be content to run away? If you don't even know how to do that, then look to us who do! Who try to live our lives despite everything!
There's still something worth in trying, even if it means starting over again!
1/2
I am not running from anything! [The flare of hotheaded anger was unlike him, and was swiftly reined in even if a scowl remained on his face.]
no subject
I have watched every last one of you, because watching is all I have been able to do for generations upon generations. To suffer and triumph alongside others is…not something known to me before now.
I am aware that I am not…what most would consider affable. That as a result perhaps it may seem as though I care nothing for any of you.
…I would have you all know that is not the truth of the matter. I have not given up, and whether that is for your sake or my own is irrelevant. When the time comes, I have full intention of fighting with everything that I have.
no subject
As if I could not understand what it's like to not be 'affable'.
It also may not be obvious to you, but I would prefer you would not wind up like the rest who have passed so far. Otherwise I would not waste my time dealing with you.
[ He absolutely could've phrased that better, because it's not like he dislikes Somnus. Their approach towards certain subjects are similar and though he never liked the acceptance of that duty, he hasn't allowed that to dissuade it from speaking to him. ]
But, even though I've heard you clear enough, actions will speak louder than words. You and I know this.
no subject
[no point sugarcoating it, even if he knew how]
I would consider it a personal failing if it were anything but my blade that claimed the Patron's head. But it is as you say--words are worth far less than the actions one takes to follow through on them.
