[On Sunday morning, there is a small gift waiting for the early risers in the tower: a gold key, dangling from a length of twine tied to the wooden beam across the ceiling at the cross section of the four dorms. Upon further inspection it has a particular symbol on the back half and a note that reads "Good job. Here's your reward". The note is signed Heisenberg. The key goes to seventh floor, where there is the same symbol etched above the keyhole on the lock.

Another new floor, another pair of deaths and their numbers halved in a matter of weeks. Things can't go on like this much longer.]

That is rarely the truth--you should not always assume the best of others.

I mean, maybe, but if you always assume the worst, nothing good will happen, right? And there are lots of people who come off as scary or dangerous, but they really just have their own problems and aren't bad at all.

And if one assumes only the best, that in itself carries danger. People are not perfect, Mei, and very few of them are even good. Those you think to be noble may easily be monsters behind a well-crafted mask.

...I know it's a risk, Somnus-san. But even after everything, I'd rather believe people are good than go back to being afraid and never reaching out to anyone. If there's a problem with me, then I'll fix it. But I want to believe in all of you, too!

They aren’t. People are flawed by their very nature, one and all. No one is truly and wholly ‘good’, and if they seem so it only means they are naïve enough to believe the world is anything but the cold reality that it is.
