final investigation
[It's been almost a week since Orthrus' lucky escape. Almost a week, of all calls to Heisenberg going (metaphorically) to voicemail. Almost a week, to rest and recover from the harrowing losses of the previous Friday.
It's been almost a week. And the storms are getting worse.
You know the locked door on the first floor? The one that goes into the center of the tower, right across from the great entry hall doors?
Today, there's a heavy iron key sticking out of the lock. With a familiar crest on the head.
The key is sticky with wet yellow paint, and wetter blood.]

It bares its teeth in a snarl, and lowers its front toward the ground, as the cannon on its back begins to draw in energy.]

You're all under arrest!
[Don't pay attention to him, it's customary for Persona 2 characters to say some line when entering a battle, it's a necessary part of his canon. Better this than 'Police, everyone freeze!' har har har.
What matters here is that Helios appears. Katsuya wastes no time giving silent orders to Helios, who raises its arms and aims at the cannon, directing a physical attack at it, like a very strong bullet. Katsuya's intent is to make the cannon aim away from everyone -- stopping the cannon would be ideal but if you're in a pinch, at least making it miss is a good option too]
Where did this thing come from?!
no subject
She flips open her grimoire and starts casting. ]
Sun Sign "Royal Flare"!
[ A ring of hard sunlight concentrates around the four of them, hopefully splitting them off from the creature. Spikes begin to emerge from the side of the ring as it rapidly rotates around, hitting anything it touches with raw sun magic. ]
What in God's name is that?!
no subject
The monster is fully twice, maybe three times the height of a man, with two pairs of wings, one scaled and leathery like a dragon and the other black and feathered. The beast is covered in scales that are the color of midnight and reflect the light of stars. It has long, clawed fingers, and the full head of a dragon.
And it rips the cell door off its hinges and throws it directly at Patchouli.]
no subject
Well, whatever the case. They are not weaklings. They can handle this.
Case in point where Felix moves immediately to block the tossing of the cell door, the Aegis Shield's ability coming in clutch so that when he thrusts it forward, the cell door bounces straight off, leaving Patchouli safe from harm. ]
We need to take that thing down, now!
[ Since it's in the way, it'll need to be defeated before the other two lingering within. He immediately switches blades, to the Sword of Moralta and his next movement would be to try to attack at it's legs. ]
no subject
[Let alone if there's more in Heisenberg's clown car of a monster cell. Nuadha hopes she has a spell that can work for that.
Nuadha takes in as much as he can about the monster as he darts in from the other side. It's dragonlike, and dark; elemental weaknesses in his world don't tend to be terribly nuanced, so he leaps up to slam his sword towards a wing with a burst of light energy in the hopes of stunning as it connects.]

At this point, from behind it, a massive green serpent with wicked-looking horns slithers out of the room, its glittering blue eyes scanning the four enemies (five, counting Katsuya's fur- I mean persona).
When it sees the knife in Katsuya's hand, it stops, raising itself up, and hisses. And attempts to meet his eyes.]
no subject
Do sunglasses protect against, like, turning into stone or something like that? Guess we'll find out, because he sure hasn't ever fought anything that can hurt you by attacking with the eyes, haha]
Go!
[Regardless of what happens to Katsuya, Helios acts, a burst of fire magic popping where the enemies are, a classic fire spell to hit all foes at once. Can be dodged, though, it sure isn't infallible, hah]
no subject
Oh no.
Patchouli refocuses on keeping the wolf creature inside the room. Hopefully Katsuya can handle the serpent. Her magic circle whirls to life under her feet as she braces herself to cast a stronger spell. This amulet, whatever it was, it was helping. She felt...energized in a way she hadn't felt in a long time. ]
Earth & Metal Sign "Emerald Megalopolis"!
[ A line of emerald pillars burst from the ground, angling to block the doorway and keep the wolf contained. It can smash through them, she's sure it will, but she needs to buy some time to charge up a stronger spell.
While she does that, she turns to the others. ]
Felix! Nuadha! Katsuya! Tell me what bodies you found!
[ The urgency in her voice says she's doesn't want questions. ]
There was a book in the workshop about making monsters out of corpses--I need to know what bodies were missing!

The serpent is not so lucky and gets quite burned, its beautiful green scales flaking and turning black. But it lunges forward with a hiss, toward Katsuya,, and looks him in his eyes as it looms over him. Images begin to appear in his mind.
Knife. The very blade he holds in his hand. Forgemaster. Heisenberg.
The serpent is irritated at being damaged, but seems to wait for an answer.
The angel, on the other hand, is about done with this shit. With another deafening screech, it drops from the ceiling onto Felix and bites his shield with its powerful draconic jaws, shaking its head viciously to make Felix lose his grip and go flying.
From behind the emerald wall, there is a whining and the sound of claws scratching at emerald.]
no subject
Though that being what it is, Felix has to reorient himself, before glancing upwards to catch where the creature has stuck itself to the ceiling. He steps back, but he doesn't anticipate that the wretched thing would aim for the shield, so he has no counter for that, and shaking him off is not unlike how a palm tree quakes a coconut off from its perch violently when the earth shifts beneath the ground.
He goes flying and unceremoniously connects with the wall back first. Then, he rises to his feet and summons protective magic for both Patchouli as well as Nuadha (this is one way to get in practice with the gifted item, since if she has her amulet he must have his ring.) But, he's kind of feeling that for obvious reasons (he is not a tank, people), so he has to take a moment before having himself back on the offensive. ]
no subject
Fortunately he's not too disoriented to take in what Patchouli is saying. There's no time to curse as the possible implications of that sink in and he eyes the giant monster warily again.]
Red Velvet. Stella, Olive. Fern. Does it matter what they were before?
[Because they already know at least some of the souls are elsewhere, and Nuadha isn't about to lie down and die politely out of sentimentality. He turns towards Felix and the angel with a look of exasperation as Felix's shield settles over him.]
If you have that, use it on yourself!
[But if he's shielded now anyway, then he may as well pull aggro. Until he has an answer from Patchouli he's no longer fighting to main, but he lunges in to take a swing at the angel with his sword and pull its attention from Felix.]
no subject
Anyway.
The Angel, on all fours like a beast, fixes its draconic gaze on Nuadha. It lets out an angry sound, and its eyes begin to glow purplish black, as blindness begins to creep in at the corners of Nuadha's vision.
The serpent still just waits in front of Katsuya.]
no subject
..........
Heisenberg, you made these things, didn't you? Do they look at you favorably, or do they want you dead? Katsuya can't tell]
He's most likely badly injured. There's blood way above us. He could be in some dark place, on the verge of death.
We don't have him.
[Well at least he tried to be diplomatic]
no subject
It might!
[ Patchouli puts a hand on the emerald pillar closest to her, keeping an eye on the strength of the spell. She can't cast anything too strong without making this one fade, but she can try to give Felix a hand. Patchouli waves her hand sharply, and a cluster of swords fly towards the angel, intent on striking it in the back. ]
I think this is--[ a huff, trying to catch her breath ]--Loki, Jasper, and Zenos!
no subject
And then simply
takes a disengage actionlowers itself down to slither past Katsuya and toward the stairs. The swords skewer the angel through the back, breaking its concentration on Nuadha and causing it to cry out in pain. However, this doesn't seem to kill it, and in retaliation its chest begins to glow blackish purple, as it coughs up a roiling ball of pure dark flames in Patchouli's direction.
Meanwhile, behind the emerald, there's a slowly brightening glow.]
no subject
But, this is a good time as any to strike, as far as he's concerned.
Felix has definitely heard Nuadha, but he thinks it'll be wise to leave the protective spell on those two in particular for awhile. Especially when the monster seems engaged with Patchouli, attention distracted from both Nuadha and himself.
He darts forward, moving quickly, and leaps before coming down with his blade in an attempt to pierce it straight into creature's back. ]
no subject
[Nuadha is still blinking away the sensation of the blindness when the snake slithers on past. He half lunges for it before changing his mind; they really can't split their numbers further, and Baldr and the others should be able to handle just the one if it comes to that. Instead he charges for the angel's side again, trying not to meet its eyes this time as he slashes towards it to try to keep it distracted.]
no subject
Until Nuadha's sword catches it firmly in the side, and Felix is ragdolled again as the fireball shoots inches over his head, smashing into (and through) the back wall of the cell next to it.
The glow from behind the emerald is getting too bright to continue to ignore.]
no subject
[Oh, that glow is indeed getting too strong. The scratching that was coming from it couldn't be good news either. Katsuya considers approaching while his Persona handles the enemies, but with how intense that glow got...]
Everyone, step back from that wall!
[Better safe than sorry. Katsuya doesn't dispel his Persona; he sure is ready to drag to relative safety anyone too close to the emerald wall]
no subject
Ah, the pillars are about to break. It's fine, she's charged this spell up enough. ]
Katsuya. Keep behind me.
[ She shifts back into a casting stance, red glow forming in in the palm of her hand.
Steady.
Steady.
The second the emerald pillars break, she shoots. ]
Fire & Sun Sign "Brigid of the Heliosphere"!
[ It's an entirely new spell she's been working on in the weeks she's been stuck here. She hasn't had time to take it out of the prototype phase, but there's no time like the present to test it out.
A scorching, blindingly bright deluge of fire and sun tunnels into the cell, Patchouli intent on burning the wolf to cinders in one hit. ]
cw: disembowelment, cw: gross
A little fun fact about living creatures is that they're pretty weak against fucking nukes.
The emerald pillars shatter to pieces in the light of the enormous laser beam that comes from the cannon on the wolf's back. But Patchy's attack does exactly what she intends it to. There is nothing left of the wolf, when the blinding flash of light fades.
The angel, too, is lying on the floor, its feathered wings burning and its skin deeply, horribly burnt. It makes a wounded, miserable sound, and tries to crawl forward, but the fire and sun magic burnt its lower body to the floor, and so as it does so, the top half rips off and leaves a trail of entrails for a few feet, crawling toward the stairs, before it finally dies.
V-victory music?]
no subject
Is everyone okay?
[He asks that, beginning to make his way towards the broken wall to take a look and see if there are more monsters about to come and attack. Doesn't even glance at the remains of the angel.
Let's go, everyone, to the other room!]
no subject
Be careful. It wouldn't surprise me if there's more of them.
no subject
I've never been better.
[ Can she keep the pendant? She wants to keep it. Holy shit, this is what it feels like to not be sick all the fucking time.
She slowly trails after them. ]
