[On Sunday morning, there is a small gift waiting for the early risers in the tower: a dull lead key (don't lick it), dangling from a length of twine tied to the wooden beam across the ceiling at the cross section of the four dorms. Upon further inspection it has a particular symbol on the back half and a note that reads "Good job. Here's your reward". The note is signed Lord H. The key goes to sixth floor, where there is the same symbol etched above the keyhole on the lock.

The new floor is even more grand than the previous ballroom, a full theatre for their enjoyment. But it doesn't take away the burning sting of certain people who would have loved to see it.]

You did the most work of us all, you know. Thank you. Whether you think it suits you or not, it isn't hard to see why you were given a territory to govern back at home.

[ Felix tenses when he points out that fact. His fingers tighten where he grips the glass, and hearing it acknowledged from Baldr makes him feel a little warm.

But it also brings a sharp pain. From his center, dulling the ache in his fingers. What would his friends have said if they saw him rushing to save the Emperor's right-hand man? He doesn't know how to receive the expression of gratitude and this time it's not because it feels embarrassing. ]

Then sit down for awhile. If you don't pace yourself you'll only foolishly cause trouble. It was your first time healing - it takes a lot out of you then you may think it has.

[ Felix just takes a moment before downing the glass until it's empty. ]

You know the two of us don't see eye to eye. Do you know why?

No, I don't. I didn't feel like it was my place to ask when the two of you clearly have quite a lengthy history.

[Felix chugging the rest of that whiskey does not go unnoticed, however. It would seem like his intuition was right on that front, at least...]

Opposing sides, I had assumed? Or is it something else?

[ Felix doesn't go and grab another bottle at least. He needs to keep his wits about him and now that he recognizes he's feeling impulsive, he will do his best to stay away from any more. ]

Yes. We stood on opposite sides of the war in Fodlan. He was with the Empire, and I with Faerghus. Not only that but as he's explained, the right hand to the Emperor of the Empire.

In my world, I saw firsthand when the blade cut short his life. But here, he's alive. And I helped to ensure that remains the case.

[ So, essentially he feels complicated over this. ]

Bear in mind there's only one reason why I'm telling you this in the first place.

[ Baldr has mentioned working with his enemy before. So he thinks the other man can get it, and admittedly, Felix has been curious about that since he doubts that it's a situation like this. ]

Wars are messy things. Were it not for them, the person you stand across from on the battlefield might very well have been your friend.

[He certainly hadn't borne any sort of personal resentment towards most of the people he'd faced in battle. They had merely been following orders, much like himself. And Gareth... Gareth had done absolutely nothing wrong, as his time spent with Sidney had driven home.]

I certainly don't think it lessens your devotion to Faerghus in the slightest. You simply acted out of a desire to save a life, whichever side that life may have been on. That, I think, is indicative of a kind leader.

[ Felix states this, without knowing that in canon he could've actually defected depending on certain...circumstances. This is Fine.

Anyway, it's always strange to hear someone refer to his devotion to his country, and he wants to kind of like snap back about it, but he is tired, and let's be real he is not a fan of duty or whatever, but he does care about the people in his homeland. Either way, the tension seems to leave him at Baldr's words, for one reason or another. ]

Kind isn't the word I'd use to describe someone like me. But, the fact is that I did save him. And next time? If he EVER does something like this he can just forget it.

People have gotten far too reckless here for my liking.

[ He doesn't even know how this happened but yet he's judging. ]

On that, we are agreed. If he had died as a result...

[But no matter how much he tries to dress it up as "causing them all a disadvantage" or "playing right into the Patron's hands," that isn't really what it's about at all and on some level he knows it.]

... we would just be giving our captors what they want. And he would have taken the coward's way out.

[Baldr has a whole lot of Feelings about dying, having done it more than once. More than anything, he hates when people don't appreciate the life that they have...]

As soon as the words fall out of Baldr's mouth, Felix can't believe it but those are literally some of the exact ones floating around in his head. It actually makes him so surprised he has to take a pause.

Maybe Nuadha's words had been more spot on than he had initially realized. ]

Exactly. What a damned fool that snake would be if he thinks that such reckless actions would be worthy of any praise. When he awakes, I swear that I'll make him regret doing what he has done in the first place.

Seeking information is one thing. Being willing to throw your life away to obtain it...

[It's a little too personal when he's all too keenly aware that he only exists in the form he does now because a god saw fit to grant him life once more-- for said god's own ends, as things turned out.]

[ There really leaves no question for who Baldr is referring to if he says on an almost regular basis, to be quite honest. So instead of leaving any ambiguity, he'll say: ]

I've let Dimitri know whenever he has been a fool, regardless of the fact that he is King, after all.

Oh, I do let him know on the rare occasions he's willing to listen. But surely you've noticed just how stubborn he can be when he sets his mind to something.

[It is both one of his best traits and his worst all at the same time.]

[ Felix absolutely doesn't want to be amused by this, but the situation is grim enough that he can't help but let out a small huff indicating such a thing. ]

[He's... a little surprised, but not at all displeased by this. It's clear that Felix and Nuadha get along quite well, or at least as well as Nuadha gets along with anyone.]

[ Felix doesn't so much as show any bit of hesitation at that. He has come to care greatly about Nuadha, and so...here we are. ]

I refuse to allow him to fall to any form of foolishness. We seem to be both aligned in that, and you've proven yourself to be competent enough to work alongside with.

[ Not to mention that he actually doesn't mind Baldr's company in the slightest. ]

I'm flattered. You're certainly throwing yourself into the fire with no hesitation whatsoever-- I would almost call that admirable.

[ His cheeks burn a little when Baldr makes that comment about his willingness to just throw his lot in like that. It is a bit embarrassing, but out of stubbornness he takes the words in proudly. ]

Well, don't think I won't be able to handle what hurdles happen to come towards either one of us. No matter whatever challenges come my way, I'll always be ready to meet them head on. I'm certain of that.

[ Felix tilts his chin upwards, and though he can have a rather hard time meeting people's gazes most of the time (he doesn't even like it), he does for a moment here. To show how serious he is. ]
