week 6

[On Sunday morning, there is a small gift waiting for the early risers in the tower: a dull lead key (don't lick it), dangling from a length of twine tied to the wooden beam across the ceiling at the cross section of the four dorms. Upon further inspection it has a particular symbol on the back half and a note that reads "Good job. Here's your reward". The note is signed Lord H. The key goes to sixth floor, where there is the same symbol etched above the keyhole on the lock.

The new floor is even more grand than the previous ballroom, a full theatre for their enjoyment. But it doesn't take away the burning sting of certain people who would have loved to see it.]

Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday

WEEKLY DEALS

1. Random Record Shuffle* - A funky fresh record you can play in a record player! The only catch is Garfield gets to pick the artist. *One per customer [1 coin]
(cw: creepy doll) 2. Angie - The ultimate haunted(?) doll, the sweet babiest sister. There is a massive crack in her head. [5 coins]
3. The Katana of Kant - A magical sentient katana that, when unsheathed, the wielder must have a philosophical debate over whether the act they're about to commit is a moral one in order to be able to use it. If the wielder wins, an attack will do double the damage. The katana also has a German accent. [Free, Please Take It]

LEFTOVER STOCK AT 50% MARK-UP ON SALE
1. Greater Hat of Disguise - A hat that lets you transform your appearance for as long as you're wearing it. You choose exactly how you look and sound, with the hat transforming to whatever headgear you choose. (You still have to sell the act though.) [2 coins]
2. Moon God Mask - A very large moon mask that covers your entire head. It kind of makes you want to either get a hamburger or form a cult. [1 coin]
3. The Tingler - The whole hand tingles from wearing this ring, as if more blood rushes through the area. [1 coin]

I'll see what I can do, yes. What material is your shield made of?

[ uh. about that, patchouli........ ]
replacementshield: (> Again with the tales of chivalry)

[personal profile] replacementshield 2022-05-01 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's...unique.

[ That's a good question. You bet your britches it's a little, hm. ]

Let me show you.

[ Felix brings out his shield, which...the material can be judged by looking at it. It is clearly not metal and more along the lines of a very sturdy bone-like structure. ]

Got it?

Is that...bone?

[ felix what the fuck ]

[ ...draws it away a teensy bit so she doesn't make constant contact. ]

It's not metal.

[ So, yeah. ]

Don't ask me too much about why it's like that. It's a relic passed down to those in the Fraldarius line, and it is a lot more sturdier than you think it'd be.

Also, don't touch it.

[ fine, don't tell her about your dragon corpse armament, she'll just look at him and seem completely mystified ]

If you don't want me to touch it, how am I going to put an enchantment on it?

[ a beat ]

I could almost swear this shield is already enchanted, come to think of it. It has a bizarre aura about it.
replacementshield: (> Get thee to a nunnery)

[personal profile] replacementshield 2022-05-01 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ He absolutely can just don't expect him to know the complete origins . . . ]

You can't just put it on without touching it?

[ ... ]

It can be dangerous for those without a Crest to wield or even touch a Hero's Relic. I'm not about to chance anything in this place either.

But, you're not wrong there's a certain kind of power in the shield. It already does a decent job, but I thought I could maybe add to it.

[personal profile] sunshade 2022-05-01 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I could attempt it without touch, but I can't guarantee it would work. Especially on an object that already holds its own magical power.

[ dude. DUDE. ]

Even touch...my gods, what sort of relic is this...?

[ asked in a more rhetorical way. jesus. ]

[ He may have a secret talent in Reason but magic is not really his specialty!! ]

It's a Hero's Relic. If you're not careful, it can turn you into a monster—

[ There is a pause where he just puts it back, because maybe he is starting to get that this is a bad idea. ]

You know what, nevermind. How about adding a protective charm to my clothing instead?

I am a youkai, you know.

[ Technically, she is already a monster! But she gets that he probably means the less than pleasant kind. ]

I can do that, yes. A reinforcement spell would work.

replacementshield: (> Again with the tales of chivalry)

[personal profile] replacementshield 2022-05-01 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Which is what, exactly?

[ Felix has spoken to her about some of the things back in her homeland but this is not something that has come up between them. ]

Then, a reinforcement spell it is. So, go ahead and do whatever you need to.

Folk creatures, supernatural entities, assorted spirits and apparitions. Some of us look more animal-like, but there are youkai like me who generally appear human. In my case, I'm a magician youkai. I was born out of concentrated magic and had a natural inclination towards the arcane arts because of it.

[ Said very casually, as if all of that is normal. ]

Very well. Let me see what I can do for your cloak, first...

[ Patchouli gets up, and--yup, she just takes his cloak in her hands to inspect it, this is a hands-on enchanting session. ]

[ Honestly, there are sure a lot of non-humans in this place who look human. He has already long since adjusted by now even if there sure has been a...rough start internally on that matter, but he can already imagine not everyone back home could have made one at all. ]

...So, what, you just came into being out of nowhere because there was a lot of magic?

[ Look, that is still such a surprising thing to him.

In the meanwhile he will just fold his arms, letting Patchouli do her work. ]

This won't take too long, right?

Do you want me to tear your clothing? Enchantments take time, even from an experienced magician. Especially if you want more than one thing enchanted. Give me a few hours.

[ Clucking her tongue at him in distaste. ]

That's the most likely explanation for my existence, yes. There's also a chance that both of my parents were youkai, and they simply had me as normal, but I don't have any memories of family members.

[ Schrodinger's Patchouli ]
replacementshield: (> Ugh)

Ugh, fine.

[ Felix will allow her to further work on it without any other complaint. He wants his cloak and clothing to stay in one piece, thanks. ]

...None? But, someone had to have been around to teach you what you needed to know, right?

[ He is not going to assume she wasn't just born with that knowledge too. Or maybe she was, he doesn't know that. ]

[ Thank you. Patchouli hums a bit as she surveys the material of the cloak, sending a light flow of magic through it to map the fabric out. ]

Oh, I had people who took care of me, certainly. But they weren't my blood relations. Either I don't have parents at all, or they passed when I was an infant. Such things are simply the way youkai exist, though. There are many of us who are born out of nature itself, as manifestations of the natural forces of the world.

Anyhow, I have loved ones of my own, back home. Whether I have parents or not, they are my family.

[ It's very good fabric! Anyway, he's just going to stand there with his arms crossed, listening to her talk before speaking up again. ]

Youkai must usually live longer than humans.

[ Her age is indicative of that, at the least. ]

We do, yes. Stronger youkai can push thousands and thousands of years. I'm fairly young, in comparison.

[ It takes her another few moments, but she starts channeling a reinforcement spell through the fabric of the cloak. Patchouli's sigil etches itself on the inside lining, in a tiny corner where it's harder to find if one isn't looking for it. ]

Make sure the sigils stay intact, by the way. If they get broken, the spell will lose effectiveness.

[ She holds up the part of the cloak with the sigil on it to show him. ]

[ To think a hundred years is young...well, Felix will wait until she's done. Once she is, he will definitely take a glance, and then nod. ]

I'll keep that in mind.

[ Then, he'll begin to turn away. Though, not before adding: ]

Thanks for the support. I'm sure it'll come in handy.
