week 1

[Yesterday was, to say the least, an eventful time. 21 people waking up in an alarming kidnapping situation, tempers got heated, salt was thrown, the usual flavor of shenanigans.

Your Alchemist made his appearance, got into several arguments, scruffed a teen and nailed a god. All in all, a productive time! It doesn’t seem like he’ll be making any more public appearances this week but he did say to give him a call.

If you don't want to converse with the Alchemist, there's a whole tower to explore! Check out all the dusty nooks and crannies, read some smutty literature, try to build a death ray, take a cozy bath- the Montessori method of learning. Curiously, starting on Monday there are mysterious leaflet catalogs scattered in several rooms of the tower. There’s no shop name on it, but there are pictures of a variety of fun and fanciful items, just a preview of the many rare and/or exotic goods you could get from one of the shop's Grand Opening Sale blind boxes. There is also a large wooden chest that has appeared in the Entrance Hall right next to the grand entrance doors, despite the fact that they remain locked. A locked mailbox hangs on the wall above the box, along with several envelopes. The mailbox says "CATALOG ORDERS", and there is a handwritten note that adds: "Write your name on the envelope as well as your order. INCLUDE PAYMENT, or it's no deal. <3"

In related news, many of you will also be receiving mysterious gold coins on top of your trunk – maybe this is the payment referenced?

(( OOC: This will be the last mod post for this week! Feel free to start submitting catalog orders for any threads that aren't with the Alchemist. This is a peace week, so get all that CR while you can! ))
guffawsungraciously: the sort of look that comes with watching something unbelievably stupid actually succeed, to your detriment (are you jangling my chain.)

[holy shit rat man you’re his new favorite person. He came to try and make actual food and here is the promise of hot fucking chocolate.]

Yes. Absolutely. I would love some hot chocolate.

Okay! It's been...ages since I had any hot chocolate with anyone. There's no good cheese here, sorry.

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
...

You... put cheese in it.

[...]

Oh, is it the sort of cheese that goes into cheesecake and such, then?
predecir: (10;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-26 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.

[He says, with a tone sort of like "why wouldn't I?"]

I'm...not sure, what do you put in cheesecake?
guffawsungraciously: he's smugly brushing his bangs out of his face. (THIS WORLD IS IMPERFECT)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-26 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Cream cheese, I believe. So the sweet sort rather than the... sharp sort, I suppose.
predecir: (10;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-26 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Well, it's not cream cheese. You usually just use queso de hoja - it's not a sharp cheese, though, it's pretty soft and, uh, mild. Makes it all creamy, a little touch of salt.
guffawsungraciously: again, the aggressive side-eye (the aggressive side-eye)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-26 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I... will take your word for it.

[it is milk. but. hm.]

It sounds interesting, if nothing else... but regardless, milk instead of cheese will suffice, I think.
predecir: (64;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-26 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Bruno raises his eyebrows like he might think milk is the odd choice here, but:]

Okay, sure. One milk hot chocolate, coming up!
guffawsungraciously: a smirky look, like you would expect from a piece of shit (kittyface...???)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-27 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Take your time. Good hot chocolate is worth it.

[he'll head to the nearest table and sit patiently!]
predecir: (10;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-27 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
You're a lot more patient than the kids used to be.

[There's something nostalgic in this. But Bruno's accustomed to that flavor of ache. He keeps on with what he's doing, and the drinks are ready pretty quickly; he'd already been heating water when Jasper walked in, and adding a saucepan of milk isn't a big deal.]

There we go. How's that? [He's used dark chocolate and put in some cinnamon - it's good and not too sweet.]
guffawsungraciously: a fairly smug smirk, but not the smuggest (thinkin about fruit sandwiches)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-27 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I am an adult.

[...he's also feeling kind of nostalgic, but like, he's not going to bring that up. he was four and mostly just remembers talking to other people about it, not the taste itself.

...but yeah he'll go ahead and take a sip.]

Ah, yes, that is good.
predecir: (14;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-27 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so are most of them now.

[Depressing!]

I'm glad you like it! We have this a lot back home - it gets pretty cool in the mountains, especially when the sun goes down.
guffawsungraciously: kind of a smile! it's probably about something horrible, but maybe it isn't. (i'm taking a ride with my best friend)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-28 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I remember having it often in the winters when I was young. Of course, I never quite felt the need to stop having it.

[sssip.]

It is certainly one of the better ways to recover from the cold.
predecir: (60;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-28 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh...it isn't like that. It's not a kid's drink, or anything, I just...have trouble getting chocolate, these days.

[He could make it on his little burner, if he really wanted. But it's harder to sneak supplies like that, and anyway the few times he has...it's just depressing.]

Nice to have it here, though!
guffawsungraciously: again, the aggressive side-eye (the aggressive side-eye)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-28 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is a shame. It is somewhat dreadful to hear that these circumstances are a step up for you in some regards, though I will admit to being fascinating by some aspects of life here.
predecir: (23;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-28 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
W-well, it's just - hard to get some goods in the Encanto, you know, way up in the mountains like that.

[Kinda comes off as a little bit of a lie! Moving on!]

Oh yeah, like what?
guffawsungraciously: a VERY smug lean back. (your best friend.)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-29 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, understandable, but deeply unfortunate. I wish you luck in getting better supply lines to your village, then.

[if he's lying he doesn't feel the need to pry. does he care? ?????]

It is not every day that you get a whole library full of details on magic from other worlds, is it? I have to admit to having some academic curiosity.
predecir: (19;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-29 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, that's pretty interesting! I don't think I could actually learn any of it - I mean, that's not how it works in my world, so that makes sense, right? But still interesting to learn about.
guffawsungraciously: keywords are accurate, jasper is just kind of smirking (just a smirky little look)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-30 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. We too are limited at home, but not quite so much... for instance, I have never had much luck with healing magic, but I would likely be able to manage other varieties.
predecir: (60;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-30 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's what I'd choose, if I could pick something. My sister can do it, sort of - might've been easier on her if there were two of us.
guffawsungraciously: boy does he love playing with his bangs. (are you there?)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-30 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, I can imagine. My home kingdom tended to have a dearth of healers, which made logistics a bit difficult at times... I did find myself wishing we had more, but it does not matter all that much now.
predecir: (12;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-03-31 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess not.

[Bruno's just thinking that he means "because we're stuck here anyway", rip.]

I wonder if anybody here can do something like that...?
guffawsungraciously: jasper looking off to the right (i could be on vacation right now.)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-03-31 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Our host did say our selection process was random, so I would imagine no one was ruled out on the grounds that those sorts of abilities would interfere with whatever this is. Of course, if anyone does have healing abilities I do not know of them.
predecir: (5;)

[personal profile] predecir 2022-04-01 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe we should...figure out what we can all do. It might help.

[Bruno sounds less than enthused, for entirely personal reasons, but...it'd be wrong to keep his gift a secret. It's sort of not one, anyway?]
guffawsungraciously: he's smugly brushing his bangs out of his face. (THIS WORLD IS IMPERFECT)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2022-04-01 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
It would be useful, certainly. Particularly if there is some reason why we should try to detect any potential murderer.
