week 6
[On Sunday morning, there is a small gift waiting for the early risers in the tower: a dull lead key (don't lick it), dangling from a length of twine tied to the wooden beam across the ceiling at the cross section of the four dorms. Upon further inspection it has a particular symbol on the back half and a note that reads "Good job. Here's your reward". The note is signed Lord H. The key goes to sixth floor, where there is the same symbol etched above the keyhole on the lock.
The new floor is even more grand than the previous ballroom, a full theatre for their enjoyment. But it doesn't take away the burning sting of certain people who would have loved to see it.]

Closed; investigation?
Few enough people he can easily keep hidden for now. He dips into the Tinker's Haven to pick up the item he had hidden under various scrap, wrapped in a towel. He ghosts his way upstairs to a place they've all seen plenty of times now.
The door to the trial room.]
If anything can burst through that barrier... I do hope you can see this from wherever they have you and the others hidden Zenos- I keep my promises.
[He unwraps the bundle, carefully placing it against the barrier that protects the door, running his fingers over it with something like affection. It's a bundle of crystals carefully bound together with wire, shaped perfectly to hold a round glass container full of a softly glowing fluid. The chemical make up was complicated and well practiced by now, and the vial is painted with a spell circle that anyone seeing it would, by now, recognize as the Fodlan school of spellcraft.
He steps back a distance he calculated should be safe, pulling the other item he grabbed on his way over his face- his Dark Mage plague mask. It wouldn't do to accidentally breath in too many shredded crystal shards and chemicals, now would it?
He takes a deep breath, his spell circle forming along his arm and with no hesitation snaps his fingers]
1/2
Since this is the first time that anyone has been up to the door to the trial room without there being a trial, there is only one floor above the landing that you currently have unlocked. The door to it is locked, but not visibly shielded like all of the doors are when there is a trial. Even the grand, statuesque doors that lead up into the trial room don't seem to be warded. For a second, it looks like you can just walk right in.
But of course, it isn't that easy at all.
Two things happen simultaneously, in the second that Bert snaps his fingers. One, the purplish-pink force field that prevents intervention in the pit during trials appears around him.
And two, just like it did in Fern's trial when it spread outward to make space, this time the force field clenches in, physically dragging Bert closer to his creation.]
Don't you want to see your great work unfold, Hubert? It would be a shame if all that effort went to waste.
[The voice in his head is dry and amused, almost gleeful. The force field stops Hubert at about half of what he had initially gauged as a safe distance. The spellcraft on the vial glows brightly, and Hubert has only a split second to think about his life choices before the whole thing detonates.
The force field disappears from behind him, and as the explosion throws him backward, down the stairs, over the ringing in his ears is the sound of a sadistic chuckle.]
2/2 Open :)
As the wintry extravaganza begins to wind down, the natural conclusion to the party is interrupted by a loud explosion from the top of the tower.
It's a good thing that the windows on the uppermost tower and the stairwell that snakes around the outside, just below the trial room, are little more than arrow slits. It means that only a few needle-like shards of crystal begin to rain down over the party.]

Now what-?!

Radiant Aegis…!!
[ And then a few seconds later: ]
What was that?!

Time to go up to the location of the explosion and hope it's not something horrid happening]

Katsuya and anyone with him will find Hubert, his plague mask shredded by crystal shrapnel, unconscious and bloody on the landing of the highest floor that isn't the trial room.]
no subject
What the hell happened here?! Damnit, that idiotic snake...!
[ Felix will immediately hurry to check that there is no crystal shrapnel in him, and if there isn't he is going to quickly launch into using Recover to at least begin cover up those grievous wounds. ]
cw: eye gore, piercing trauma, compound fracture
Bad news: shit's fucked, man. There are tiny slivers of broken crystal embedded in most of his body. His plague doctor mask protected his face from sustaining a lot of damage, but there is a large piece of crystal that pierced into his left eye, through the lens of the mask.
Also his left arm is particularly littered with shrapnel, as if he'd brought it up to guard against the blast, which did him little good when the percussive force knocked him back down the stairs. In addition to the shrapnel, one of the bones of his forearm has pierced through the skin, and his arm is bent unnaturally below the elbow, likely from the weight of his body crushing it against the unforgiving stone stairs.]

Anyone else who can heal, I'll need them over here right now as support. I don't care how good or bad at it you are. Vestra is in rather rough shape, and that's putting it pretty damn lightly.
[ He'll move to hurriedly remove what he can of the broken crystal to start with as quickly as he can, starting with the smaller pieces, before moving to take care of his left arm. You know, shifting it into position so that when healing spells happen the bone can eventually recede back into skin.
As for the eye, he's going to be careful with that, and prepare to time healing spell(s) at time of that removal. But once he's in a prime position for that? He'll be casting Recover for real. ]

[Bandages from the random boxes materialize next to Felix as Loki kneels at Hubert's head, feeling around for any spinal injuries.]
I have a spell that will stop the bleeding, but it doesn't hold for long.

The crystal shards are mostly littering the front of his body, so luckily he doesn't need to be moved to remove the worst of them.
As he adjusts the arm, he can kind of tug on it so that the bone starts to go back under the skin, or he can try to perform a closed reduction, where he fully tries to pull it back into place.]

von Vestra is injured! Come closer if you can handle first aid!
[Yeah, he'll make sure people aren't crowding around the injured Hubert. He's going to need to be carried away and all, so yeah, he'll keep order around here, yup]

[like holy shit, hubert, what even]

[What the hell was Hubert doing, though? But yeah, Katsuya doesn't say it was Hubert's fault because hey, maybe he's an innocent victim, who knows]

He taught us a healing spell -- maybe we can save him if enough of us work!
