[On Sunday morning, there is a small gift waiting for the early risers in the tower: a dull lead key (don't lick it), dangling from a length of twine tied to the wooden beam across the ceiling at the cross section of the four dorms. Upon further inspection it has a particular symbol on the back half and a note that reads "Good job. Here's your reward". The note is signed Lord H. The key goes to sixth floor, where there is the same symbol etched above the keyhole on the lock.

The new floor is even more grand than the previous ballroom, a full theatre for their enjoyment. But it doesn't take away the burning sting of certain people who would have loved to see it.]

[Nuadha blinks back in mild confusion. She's looking a little... sugar overload from beef candy?]

I'm not particular about food. [But with maybe 5% contradiction:] ...Green tea. And dorayaki, I suppose.

That sounds nice. At least on its own. [She sits down on the pedal car, which she brought to lug regains up the stairs.] Not something like manjuu chazuke, though. I can't say anything because Ougai-san loves it and I don't want to be rude, but it's so gross... There's a reason nobody eats that anymore!

Together...? I can't imagine the rice adds...

[HM. It doesn't sound bad though. Nuadha is still pondering this when Mei plops down.]

Mei? Are you feeling well?

I think so! I don't know. I got tired of standing, that's all. I'm sure I'm fine!

[She waves her arms in a vain attempt to convince him, which is probably doing the opposite.]

...Surely you're not that frail, normally.

[She's tiny and noncombatant, but she stands all the time? The waving is definitely having the opposite effect. He leans down to press his wrist to her forehead, fever is about the only illness he knows how to check for.]

[Mei blinks up at Nuadha a few times.]

Eh? I swear it's okay. I just wanted to sit down, I don't need to rest! Do you want to try some of this candy? Or look at what else I got?

[She doesn't feel too warm? Maybe she really is just fatigued. Possibly from unloading so many things from that giant box. He's still staring a little more to be sure.]

[It sounds so much more embarrassing when she puts it like that, actually. Time to straighten up and change the topic. Except nothing else in Mei's haul is providing him with an obvious escape, so...]

I guess that's true. I know it's a little weird. But meat is healthier than candy anyway, and it tastes good! What about you, Nuadha-san?

I suppose it is healthier. [He is eating the gummy politely, with only a little trepidation! Hmmm.] ...It's unusual. But not unpleasant.

Right? It's good to get something nice out of these. I got Somnus-san's ring and he got upset.

Was he? I think that's just his nature. [Like how can you tell.]

He is kind of like that, but he said that ring was dangerous and could set you on fire if you weren't related to him. Bryn-san called it nepotism. Or a gentlemen's club.

...I'm sure he had female relatives as well. Perhaps nepotism, though.

[At least half of that is going over Nuadha's head, but he's sizing Mei up for burns with some alarm.]

That's an unfortunate thing for Garfield to put in those boxes. Or to own.

He said it was about being worthy, but I don't get it. How do you know you're worthy just by being noble? I mean, I guess that's what a lot of them think about themselves anyway.

It's fairly common. But I suppose he meant something about the powers related to his bloodline. [And phrased it, you know, like that.] It's good you aren't hurt, though.

I guess so. Ehe, thank you. Maybe he just needs someone to say the right thing. I wonder why he never opens up.

It's the kind of reserve that's usually required of a ruler. And being dead only sets certain habits more concretely.

Oh... I guess it's a big responsibility. No wonder important people always get serious about themselves. Felix-san said they gossip about him too, though. I thought it was just me because I don't belong.

He did? --Wait, they gossip about you?

[Nuadha's a little disoriented which of these affronts to several of his favorite people to pursue first. But also, he's frowning a little at Mei again. It's not that she's not usually talkative, but this seems a little...]

Uh-huh. [She blinks a few times, completely unaware that she usually has more of a filter than this.] That's why I told you I'm worried about not being good enough. Because I wasn't... [Stares at nothing for a second.] Wasn't being a proper lady yet, so I had to learn, I thought. Because I made some mistakes, and that lady asked why there was a commoner here, and her daughter was really pretty and I couldn't measure up if I wanted to, an', an' Ougai-san's aunt got mad at me for existing and called me a little girl.

So I thought I just had to get better. But Felix-san says it happens to him all the time too, and he's an actual noble and everything.
