[One week down and (if the Alchemist's promise is to be believed) just three more to go. In the past week royalty has been bullied, explicitly non-Satanic chairs were ordered and you began the pact-bonding process with your new proprietor of mercantile wares, ✨Garfield the Deals Warlock✨.

All in all, a surprisingly good week despite the kidnapping and looming threat of death. We'll see how long that lasts.

I wouldn't if the person they had to kill for it was the one in the picture, and not a stranger.

[His fingers fidget over the spines of a few books in apparent indecision. He's not comforting at the best of times, and not skilled at talking to children. But this doesn't sit right with him.]

That's the problem. Even if twenty of us don't think that's worth it... all it takes is one who does.

[His complete ignorance of what a trolley is shakes him out of his introspection, at least. He abandons the books to look over at her properly, his expression still set in a slight frown that could maybe be detectible as worried.]

[ She thinks for a moment. ]

It's a philosophy exercise where I come from. There's a trolley - that's a big vehicle, basically - heading down a track towards five people. If it hits them, it'll kill them. You can stop it - if you move it to another track, where it's going to kill just one person instead.

[He absorbs that with a slight wince and glances away again. That hits perhaps a little too close to home.]

I see. We don't have an expression for it, but the principle is the same. Making the choice to take a life to prevent greater harm. And if you choose to do nothing, then the blood of all five is on your hands.
