[One week down and (if the Alchemist's promise is to be believed) just three more to go. In the past week royalty has been bullied, explicitly non-Satanic chairs were ordered and you began the pact-bonding process with your new proprietor of mercantile wares, ✨Garfield the Deals Warlock✨.

All in all, a surprisingly good week despite the kidnapping and looming threat of death. We'll see how long that lasts.

Oh. Well...okay, thanks. It's been forever since I had good coffee.

You weren't able to get it where you were?

Not really. It's not...I mean, it's a little complicated.

It must've been difficult. Maybe you can take back some supplies when we all get out of here.

Oh, yeah, I was hoping to! This place is a treasure trove! I bet I could fill my pockets and live off it for a year!

[He's exaggerating, a little, but you learn how to stretch your supplies when you're a grown man and twenty-odd rats living off whatever scant leftovers you think can go missing without notice.]

That's why you never take more than you can eat in a couple days. That, and always go for the stuff that keeps. When you can, anyway - it's really hard to get canned stuff, but definitely worth it if you're willing to take the risk.

[There's absolutely a story behind this, and it's probably about Bruno living off stolen preserves.]

[Though technically, Bruno could sort of be said to also live in, at the least, the biggest house in town.]

It was sort of a -- I mean, he did say I could stay, but, well... [She looks guilt-wracked for a second, but mostly she just seems to be flailing and turning red.] It's temporary!

Woah, woah, Mei! [Bruno waves his hands, starting to also look alarmed.] It's okay! I - you don't have to tell me about it, but I know some stuff about...unorthodox living situations. It's really fine.

Um... thank you. I'm sorry. It's not really anything bad. It's just that my situation is... well, I was trying to decide. Whether to stay or go back.

...oh, yeah?

Uh-huh. So thinking about it always makes me feel guilty. Because I'm either giving up the place and people that made me feel better about myself, or just running away from my problems. That's all.

...I get that. I ran away from all my problems ages ago.

...yeah, I guess it is.

There's new problems where I am now, of course. And maybe a few old ones coming back to haunt me. I guess it's harder to get away from that stuff than you think.
